Man faces violence charge for ignoring wife's fast-food desire

A woman has charged her husband with domestic violence for not taking her out to fast-food joints and has urged a family court to consider this as ground for divorce.

The woman, a housewife in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad district, about 200 km from here, has approached the family court claiming herself to be a victim of domestic violence. She has accused her husband of refusing to take her for “outings” and “fast-food and chat centre”, her favourites.

In her petition to the court, she said she often asked her husband to take her out as there was no market near her residence. “He refused to take me out and whenever he did, he would not let me eat fast food or chat,” she claimed in the petition.

The “victim”, who has been married a couple of years ago in a village in the district, contended that her husband’s act amounted to “domestic violence” and was ground for divorce. According to sources, the court heard her contention but has not admitted the petition so far.  Efforts were being made to “persuade” the woman to withdraw her petition and settle the matter amicably. Reports said the couple would be provided counseling by experts to resolve the issue and save the marriage.
