19-year-old housewife electrocuted

A housewife was electrocuted when she tried to plug in a refrigerator at her house in Ramdas Layout under the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police limits on Monday night.

Police have identified the deceased as Mahadevi, 19, a native of Kollegal. She was married to Shiva Nayak, a labourer, 10 months ago. The couple had settled in the City recently.

On Monday at around 11 pm, Mahadevi cleaned the refrigerator and tried to plug it in but was electrocuted. Hearing her screams, the neighbours rushed to the house and found her lying unconscious.

They informed her husband, who was away at work, and also  the police who shifted her to a nearby hospital. But the doctors declared her brought dead, the police said.
The couple had purchased a second-hand refrigerator a couple of days ago, the police said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the house lacked earthing system resulting in the death of Mahadevi.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Nepalese man killed

A 21-year-old man from Nepal was mowed down by an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus near Shivananda Circle under the High Grounds traffic police limits on Monday.

Police have identified the deceased as Kaviraj. He had come to Bengaluru a couple of days ago to visit his father who works as a security guard at a private hospital in the City.

On Monday at around 11 pm, Kaviraj was returning home after giving dinner to his father when the speeding bus coming from the Kempe Gowda bus stand and on its way to Andhra Pradesh knocked him down near Shivananda Circle. Passersby shifted the injured to a nearby hospital but he was declared brought dead by doctors.

“Police rushed to the spot and seized the bus. They also arrested the driver Sidda Reddy. It is yet to be ascertained if the driver had tried to jump the signal. A case has been booked and investigation is on,” said a senior police officer.

Gold merchant robbed

A gold merchant was robbed of a gold pendant at knifepoint by two bike-borne men near Cubbonpet under the Halasuru  Gate police station limits on Monday night.

Police said the victim, who didn’t wish to be identified, was a native of West Bengal and owned a jewellery shop in Cubbonpet. At around 10 pm, the victim was on his way to SP Road to deliver the 40gm gold pendant when he was stopped by two men. They threatened him at knifepoint and made away with the pendant. Later, he lodged a complaint with the Halasuru Gate police station.
