Last Updated 23 December 2014, 20:08 IST

Senior Congressman Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who is an expert in agriculture and cooperatives, was declared Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

Vikhe-Patil, 55, is son of former union minister Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil and grandson of Dr Vithalrao Vikhe-Patil, one of the doyens of the cooperative movement in Maharashtra.
His appointment comes a day after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s Dhananjay Munde, the nephew of late BJP stalwart Gopinath Munde, was declared the LoP in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.

Speaker Haribhau Bagde in a suo moto statement made the announcement in the Lower House and installed Vikhe-Patil as LoP.
