The State government is learnt to have finalised the name of former Legislative Council chairman V R Sudarshan for appointment as chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

According to Secretariat sources, the government has sent the file to Raj Bhavan for the approval of Governor Vajubhai Vala.

The government also sent a list of six names for appointment as members to the KPSC, the sources said. These include IPS officer Syed Ulfat Hussain, progressive thinker Prof Govindaiah of Mysuru, Raghunandan Ramanna of Channapatna, Dr Ravikumar of K G General Hospital, Bengaluru, Nagabhai Bulla of Gulbarga University and Michael Simon of Dharwad, the sources said.

Sudarshan had aspired for a Congress ticket to contest from the Jayanagar Assembly constituency last year. However, he was denied a ticket.

BJP spokesperson Suresh Kumar on Wednesday said the government should desist from appointing “full-time politicians” to the KPSC.
