Accused promised to marry her, says girl's family in complaint to cops

Two separate cases of rape involving two minor girls were reported from north-east Delhi on Friday, police said.

In the first case, the family of a 12-year-old girl filed a complaint with Mansarovar Park police station accusing a 22-year-old man of raping her repeatedly.

The girl’s family told police that Pawan Kumar allegedly befriended her and raped her after promising to marry her. The family said the two became friends while chatting over WhatsApp. The girl is a class 7 student of a government school in Kashmere Gate.

According to police, the matter came to light when the girl started insisting on marrying Pawan even as neither her family members nor Pawan was ready for it.

“Our initial investigation revealed that Pawan cheated the girl and used her for sexual favours after promising to marry her. When the girl’s parents learnt about her closeness with Pawan, they reprimanded her and asked her not to meet him,” a police officer said.

The girl, however, continued meeting Pawan and began asking him as well as her family members for marriage.

Pawan was known to the girl’s family as he frequently visited their house. With no option left, the family approached police. On the basis of their complaint, a case under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered with Mansarovar Park police station. Pawan has been arrested and sent to Tihar Jail.

Another case
In the second case, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Nand Nagri on Friday. Police said the girl was alone when the accused entered her house in Sunder Nagri and forced himself on her. He threatened her not to reveal the crime to anyone.

A case of rape has been registered against the accused identified as Jon Singh, who is absconding. The girl’s parents were not at home when the incident happened.
