All 3 injured recovering in hospital

Last Updated 29 December 2014, 19:56 IST

All three persons who were injured in the bomb blast are recovering in the hospital and their condition is stable, according to doctors.

Karthik, a postgraduate student from Dayanand Sagar College, was accompanying his aunt Bhavani Devi, who died in the blast. A shrapnel piercing from near his shoulder had entered his body. It took doctors at Mallya Hospital, where he was rushed to, about half-an-hour to surgically remove the object from Karthik’s body.

Dr Kanchan Sanyal, medical superintendent, Mallya Hospital, said that the boy’s condition is not critical, but has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit. “He is doing fine and will be shifted to the ward in a day or two.

He will be discharged soon,” she added. Dr Bhaskar Pai, another specialist from Mallya Hospital, said that the boy had a miraculous escape as it might have been catastrophic had the shrapnel gone in any further.

Meanwhile, two software engineers from the City are recovering at Hosmat Hospital. Sandeep (39), an employee at IGate, underwent a successful surgery for the removal of the shrapnel from his left leg. “There was a metallic object that was about 3 cm long and 1.5 cm wide that has been removed. It has been handed over to the police for investigation. Along with this, we found fabric in his leg,” said Dr Thomas Chandy, chief of orthopaedics, Hosmat Hospital.

Dr Aji Benedict Royan said, “The object was found near the knee joint on his left leg. He is lucky that it has not damaged any major artery. He is presently on antibiotics course.”

Vinay, who was present with Sandeep when the incident took place, has recovered and is likely to be discharged on Tuesday.
