A goat and a calf have been killed in a leopard attack at Konnapura, near here, on Sunday night.

Villagers said, the pregnant goat belonging to one Ningegowda, and Nagaraju’s calf were killed by a leopard, which they suspect had entered the village from Karadahalli Gudde.

GP vice-president Nagesh and member Venkatappa said, the assurances by the Forest department officials to place a cage to trap leopards in the region had not been fulfilled. They said, leopard attacks had become rampant in Karadahalli, Bemanahalli, Lingapatna, Nituru and surrounding areas, and demanded adequate compensation to the farmers.

Of the three leopards that have been creating a scare in Tirupatihalli village, Hassan district, the Forest department was successful in capturing one among them, here on Monday.

Following complaints from villagers, department personnel had set up a cage at the village. A male leopard was caught during the day. Officials later shifted the feline to Gendekatte forest. “The leopard will be released at the nearby reserve forests. There are complaints about the presence of two more leopards near the village and cages will be set up to capture them too,” forest officials said.
