One of the two police constables who gang-raped a minor inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district a few days ago was apprehended near Bareilly railway station in the state.

Avanish Yadav, who was absconding after perpetrating the crime, was arrested late on Monday night from the station road area while trying to catch a train and flee, according to police sources here.

Avanish was produced before a local court in Budaun on Tuesday, which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

The other accused, constable Veerpal Yadav, continued to be at large.

The Uttar Pradesh government has already dismissed the two constables and suspended six others, including the in-charge of the Musajhag police station where the incident took place.

The two constables had abducted the 14-year-old victim when she stepped out of her house on Wednesday night and gang-raped her at the police quarters. The cops, who were in an inebriated state, dumped the minor at her village after her condition deteriorated.
