Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said the government would announce the revised bus fares on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the chief minister on Tuesday, the minister said the latter had cleared the proposal to reduce the bus fares. The government had said that the fares would be brought down following the downward revision of fuel prices.
Referring to BJP’s allegation that the State government had not passed on the fuel price reduction to commuters, Reddy said a barrel of oil cost Rs 7,421 during UPA regime and the price had now come down to Rs 3,426. “But why the Union government has not reduced railway fares? Also, how many BJP-ruled states have reduced bus fares?” he asked.
