Hundreds witness 'Kere Habba'

Hundreds of people gathered at Kaikondarahalli Lake to celebrate ‘Kere Habba’ and indulged in an array of activities on Saturday.

Heritage walk, bags from rags, reptile walk, urban gardening demo, quilting, story telling, bird walk and other activities were held to mark the occasion.  Children also turned up in huge numbers to witness the lake festival organised by Mahadevpura Parisara Samrakshana Mattu Abhuvruddhi Samiti (MAPSAS) under the aegis of Namma Bengaluru Foundation.

The event that started as early as 6 am continued till evening at various venues of the lake spread across 48 acres and 23 guntas on Sarjapur Road.

Priya Ramasubban, Founding Trustee of MAPSAS said more than 3,500 people from different parts of the City took part in the event.

“This is the first time Kere Habba has been organised on such a large scale at Kaikondrahalli Lake. The Namma Bengaluru Foundation intends to hold such programme every month at each of the major lakes in the City with the support from local community,” she added.

The story telling session revolving on lakes was entertaining and interesting, maintained the children.

Indulekha P, a school student, said: “I enjoyed the story telling session and reptile walk wherein we were showed reptiles such as water snakes among other creatures existing in the lake.”

The organisers maintained that this event, partnered by United Way of Bengaluru (UWBe), and One Bengaluru for Lakes, was aimed at getting more people to Kaikondrahalli Lake.

While the lake works are funded by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the water body is managed by MAPSAS trust and supported by the surrounding communities, said the members from MAPSAS.
