BJP to decide on Bedi's role next week

Last Updated 16 January 2015, 20:56 IST

A day after former Team Anna member Kiran Bedi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party is keen to exploit the combo image of a woman achiever-cum-anti-corruption crusader to offer her a bigger role than merely fielding her in the February Assembly polls.

Bedi’s fate will be decided by the party’s parliamentary board at its meeting on Monday, with the buzz is that she might be asked to head campaign panel.

The Central Election Committee too will meet on the same day to finalise list of candidates except for a couple of seats that would be left for party ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

It will also decide from which constituency Bedi would be contesting. The former DGP’s high profile party joining reception in front of president Amit Shah was followed up with the BJP putting up her posters outside its Delhi unit office at Pandit Panth Marg.

She was also facilitated by the state unit along with former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi who walked over to the BJP on Friday.

Welcoming her to the party, Shah had hinted about her future role — “Kiran Bedi’s constructive contribution will play an important role in ensuring that BJP lives up to the expectation of the people in the election and in any future government.”
