Shimla man dies in accident

In a hit-and-run case on Monday night, an unidentified vehicle mowed down a 38-year-old field officer near Naganathapura under the Electronics City traffic police limits.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Surendra Kumar. He worked for a private company in Shimla and had come down to the City only a couple of days ago on official duty.

On Monday, he was crossing the road near Naganathapura when an unidentified vehicle– suspected to be a tempo or a mini bus–mowed him down and fled the spot, around 8 pm. Passersby rushed Kumar to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

In the rush to get him to the hospital, no one made note of the registration number on the vehicle. The vehicle was driven rashly and was speeding, said the police. A case has been registered and the CCTV footage is being examined to identify the vehicle.

Two on bike snatch chain

Two unidentified bike-borne miscreants made away with a gold chain from a lecturer in Ram Mohan Pura under the Subramanyanagar police limits on Tuesday.

According to the police, the complainant, Ranjitha is a lecturer at a reputed college in the City. Around 8.30 am, she was walking towards the bus stop, when two persons on a bike snatched away her gold chain weighing 80 grams, said the police.

The victim approached the police station and lodged a complaint. In her complaint, she said the miscreants were wearing helmets and that they sped away before she could make note of the registration number of bike. 

House hunters rob lady

A couple on the pretext of house hunting robbed a woman of her gold valuables at her residence in Rajagopala Nagar on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the victim, Pushpalatha, in her complaint said a couple came and enquired about the house for rent. She let them inside and offered them water to drink. But the couple threatened her with a knife and made away with a pair of earrings and gold chain. Before fleeing the spot, they locked the victim in her own house, said the police.

The neighbours heard Pushpalatha’s cries for help and unlocked the door. She informed the police, who visited the spot and a case was registered.
