A white tiger died at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) on Saturday following a prolonged illness.

The 12-year-old Arya was suffering from pancreatic insufficiency and cystic fibrosis for the past few months which resulted in his death.  The visceral samples of the tiger were collected and sent to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals for clinical examination.

Arya was brought from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali in Mumbai.  He was one of the several tigers which were infected with salmonella infection that broke out in the BBP safari in Sept, 2010.

Arya survived the infection then despite suffering from severe bout of diarrhoea.
