To ensure speedy and time bound services for the students, staff and general public alike, the University of Mysore on Wednesday launched ‘Sakaala’. An initiative of the State government that was launched three years ago, it has been already introduced at Mangaluru, Tumakaru and Rani Channamma Universities at Belagavi.

Launching the service by opening the dedicated office at Crawford Hall, the administrative wing of the varsity, VC Prof K S Rangappa said that the departments of administration, finance, academics and examinations offering services like the change of college, re-admission, change of course, change of combination and eligibility certificate, salary certificate, reimbursement of EMD, VAT certificate and distribution of Form 16 and granting permission under the same, have been brought under Sakaala. Income certificate, correction in marks card, transfer certificate among others have also been brought under Sakaala.

As per the rules, the applications have to be disposed by six days by the deputy registrars in the case of academic related queries. If the officer fails to reply within the time frame, the Registrar, who is the competent authority, has to dispose the same within 10 days. Vice Chancellor, who is the appellate authority also has 10 days time to dispose the same. With regard to finance section, Finance Officer, the designated authority, has to respond to the queries within three to seven days; the Registrar, who is the competent authority, has  10 days time; and the VC, the appellate authority, has an additional 10 days time.

In the event of failure, the erring staff will be penalised (minimum of Rs 20 per application per day up to maximum Rs 500) as per the university rules and regulations, said Rangappa.

Rangappa said that this was the result of a six-month-long exercise, which was delayed due to the time required to collate the related information. “As most of the documents related to the varsity have been computerised, it will come in handy in extending the service under the new initiative,” he added.
