Scarcity of snake venom rocks vigilance panel meet

Eight cases of H1N1 reported in the district

The issue pertaining to the scarcity of snake venom rocked vigilance committee meet held here at Zilla Panchayat on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Vishal directed DHO Surendra Chimbalakar and District Surgeon Anand Naik to be cautious to handle the emergency.  The district surgeon said nearly five cases of snake bites are reported every month and there is a requirement of 20-30 vials of snake venom. DHO said three cases of snake bike deaths were reported in the district. One vial costs Rs 900 and the same costs Rs 1,450 in private establishments. 

The district has 100 vials of snake venom as against the requirement of 300-400 vials per year. Elaborating on H1N1 deaths, the DHO said eight cases of H1N1 were reported in the district. As many as four recovered, two are in ICU and two are under treatment.  The government has allotted Rs 1 lakh, of which Rs 50,000 worth drugs are available in the district.  The DHO also added that there are adequate amount of rabies medicine. District Surgeon said around 10-12 dog bites are reported every day.

Package for arecanut farmers

Horticulture DD said input subsidy report over compensation package for arecanut farmer who suffered crop loss owing to the rot disease is sent to the Deputy Commissioner. As many as 9205 applications are received in the three taluks of the district. Around 19 cases are pending for recovery worth Rs 1.95 lakh. The official negligence has resulted in providing compensation package to the dry land holders also, he added.

The official said the work taken up under Gram Sadak Yojana would be completed by March and the pending bridges would be completed by May end.

DC said that Rs 40 crore  is released for under National Cyclone Risk Mitigation (NCRMP). An elaborate plan is chalked out under National Cyclone Risk Mitigation (NCRMP). Under this scheme, multipurpose shelters would be opened at Padu in Kaup and Thekkatte in Kundapur and 29 connective stretches would be envisioned. Three school halls would be converted into shelters.

The official said as many as 132 lakh is released to Hangarukatte port drudging.  As many as 102 crore is released to Gangolli port, while another six crore to Kodi Kanyana and another Rs two crore is released to Malpe port.  The work of Kodi Kanyana and Gangolli ports is underway, he added.

House electrification

Mescom official said a proposal of Rs 580 crore is sent to the government demanding for the electrification of the houses under Rajiv Gandhi electrification scheme. Plans have been chalked out to set up solar lights at  nine hamlets. However three hamlets are introduced with solar lights, he added.

Food and Civil Supplies DD added that as many as 1,53,456 applications for ration cards were received. Of which 1,20,506 applications are BPL and another 32,958 applications are for Anthyodaya. Women and child Welfare Department DD added as many as 752 Anganwadi centers are closed owing to the protest of Anganwadi workers, while another 394 Anganwadis are open, she added. DC added that 10 per cent work of NH is over.

The PWD and ZP should take the responsibility to put humps for the feeder roads concerning their respective departments, he added.
