Two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants robbed Rs 19 lakh at gunpoint from employees of a two-wheeler showroom in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar on Monday.

The accused fired a bullet at the employees when they resisted the robbery attempt, police said.

The incident took place at around 1.30 pm at Joshi Colony in Madhu Vihar. Eyewitnesses as well as the victims told police that the robbers were wearing helmets and that was why they could not see their face.

The victims Rajkumar, 35, and Ankit, 28, are employed with Auto Needs India, a two-wheeler showroom of Hero motorcycles in Pandav Nagar. While Rajkumar is a mechanic, Ankit works as an office boy.

An initial probe revealed that the cashier of the company who regularly deposited day’s business money in the bank was on leave on  Monday.

The manager of the showroom, Sunita, handed over Rs 19 lakh cash to Rajkumar and asked him to deposit the money at a bank located in Patparganj area. She asked Ankit to accompany Rajkumar.

“At around 1.10 pm, the two employees left the showroom with the money on a motorcycle. As they reached Joshi Colony, two unidentified men riding a motorcycle intercepted their two-wheeler and forced the two employees to stop,” said a police officer.
Before Rajkumar and Ankit could realise anything, the man riding pillion on the motorcycle whipped out a pistol and pointed at them.

They threatened to kill the duo and asked them to hand over the bag containing cash to them.

“When the showroom staff resisted, the robber fired a bullet, aiming at their legs. However, the bullet did not hit them,” the officer said.

“In the meantime, the robbers snatched the bag and fled on their motorcycle. The victims informed their employer and also called the police control room,”  he added.

“We are trying to identify the robbers and for that CCTV cameras installed in the locality are being examined. Local criminals are also being interrogated,” the officer said.
A case has been registered with Madhu Vihar police station.
