Cops quiz maid as she was close to her

An 18-year-old girl was found murdered outside her brother’s home in west Delhi’s Shakurpur Basti on Thursday.

Blood was oozing from the victim’s neck and a dupatta was found wrapped twice around her neck. Police have picked up several persons for interrogation, but no breakthrough has been obtained yet.

Police are probing into the possibility of a love affair gone sour. However, victim Shabnam’s brothers claimed that they were unaware of her being in a relationship with anyone.

Sushma, a maid working in the homes of the victim’s two brothers, is among those who are being questioned.

The victim’s brothers have told police that they suspected Sushma knew much about her personal life and would be able to provide vital clues.

The victim’s mobile phone has been found missing. Police said getting her call record details could provide some insight into the persons she was in close touch with prior to her death. Shabnam was found dead on the stairs of her elder brother Nikki’s house around 6 am. 

“Nikki had woken up in the morning to find her missing from the bed. He and others in the family then walked down from the third floor of the building to look for her and found her body on the stairs,” Shabnam’s another brother Lucky told Deccan Herald.

The family hails from Bettiah in Bihar and had been living in Shakurpur Basti’s block M for the last seven years. Both the brothers have welding shops and live a few houses apart from each other.

Apart from the brothers and the dead girl, the family consists of three other sisters and their mother. “Shabnam would generally spend the day at my home and go to Nikki’s home to sleep at night,” her brother said.

On the first floor of the building, where Nikki lives, is a small factory. Police are questioning the workers there in a bid to catch the murderer.
