Had regular fights over her suspected love affair

A 32-year-old pregnant woman was strangled by her husband over suspicion of infidelity in north-east Delhi’s Jaffrabad in the wee hours of Tuesday. The accused has been arrested, police said.

Zalfar had married Sehzar in 2008, and they lived at a rented house in Chauhan Banger.

Police said their relationship soured as Zalfar suspected Sehzar of being in an extramarital affair.

It led to heated arguments between the couple after which Sehzar often used to shift to her parental home in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri.

Late on Monday, Zalfar and Sehzar had another heated argument over an unknown issue, but they settled the matter and went off to sleep.

Informed kids, in-laws “Zalfar claimed that he strangled Sehzar while she was asleep. In the morning, when his children woke up, he told them that he had killed their mother,” said a police officer.

Zalfar also informed his in-laws and they made a call to the police control room.
Sehzar’s body was taken for a post-mortem at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital after crime and forensic teams inspected the house.

A case of murder has been registered with Jaffrabad police station.
Sehzar hailed from Murshidabad district of West Bengal and had two children Nafeez and Najeet with Zalfar.

Zalfar was a salesman at a saree shop in Jaffrabad.
As part of an initial probe, police have questioned Sehzar’s family members.
They claimed that Zalfar used to harass and torture Sehzar over suspicion that she was in an extramarital affair.

“It is alleged that these issues had led to frequent heated arguments between the couple,” the officer added.

They alleged that Zalfar had also attempted to kill Sehzar in the past.
The couple’s landlord has also told police about the ruckus that they created late on Monday.

“He had also told Zalfar and Sehzar to vacate the house due to the disturbance that they caused,” the officer said.
