The historical Uroos of Sufi Shahid Dargah at Emmemadu Village near Napoklu, famously known as ‘Emmemadu Uroos’ will be held from February 27. The Uroos will have a divine start with special prayers and flag hoisting in the afternoon.

An all-religion meet will be held on March 2. On the day, parking facilities have been made at Santhe Maidan at Napoklu.

Emmemadu, a small village which is 32 km away from district centre Madikeri, has earned fame by the tomb of Sufi Shahid. Annual fair is being held in the commemoration of the Sufi saint.

The saint, who spread the message of peace, spent his last days in Emmemadu. He strived for religious harmony in his lifetime.

Communal harmony

The place draws devotees from all religions. There were instances in the past where the diseases affecting cattle were cured after making a vow at Emmemadu Dargah.

This belief persists even to this day and the vow makers offer the silver dolls of cattle, milk and ghee as offerings, on the fulfillment of vows.

The Dargah also runs a home for orphan children and destitute, where food shelter and clothing is provided to the abandoned people and support for education is provided to boys.
A mosque which can occupy thousands of people, is built at a cost of rs one crore.

There is also a dargah of Syed Hasan Sakhafi, who is a descendent of Prophet Muhammed Paigambar, situated on the right side of the road leading to Sufi Shahid Dargah. Both Dargahs have been reconstructed today.

Police security

The number of devotees visiting Emmemadu dargah is increasing year by year. Mass feeding will be held during the Uroos.

The police security has been tightened from February 27 to March 6 in the wake of the Uroos. A convention will be held on March 2. Also, mass feeding will also be held on the day.

As March 2 is also the day of shandy market, the vendors have been requested to carry out the business at the stalls and not on road sides. The vehicles coming to the shandy market and other vehicles should be parked at police ground. Vehicles should not be parked across the stretch between the main road and Haletaluk.

Autorickshaws will be parked on one side of Bethu road. The vehicles coming to Emmemadu from Napoklu, Virajpet and Bhagamandala are allowed through the main entrance and parking facility for such vehicles has been made at the field behind the school for orphan in Emmemadu.

Vehicles returning from Emmemadu to Bhagamandala should pass through one-way via Paniyadi and the vehicles returning to Napoklu should pass through one-way via Kooruli, said Napoklu Police Station SI.
