Last Updated 27 February 2015, 21:26 IST

World-renowned US scientist, Prof Eric Lander, ( in pic) said on Friday that access to data on genetics should be free for all across the globe and should not be motivated by private gain.

Mathematician turned biologist turned geneticist, Lander, was delivering a lecture on genetics as part of the Cell Press-TNQ India Distinguished Lectureship Series 2015 at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He said that there is no doubt that public good should be the motive of all genetics research. It is for the people that we do this research and not for private gain.

“All data sharing mechanisms should be created and built in the interest of public,” Lander said.
