A 65-year-old man was killed outside his house in west Delhi’s Bawana by a neighbour over a personal  enmity on Tuesday.

The accused has been arrested, police said. The victim Umed Singh lived with his family in Katewara village. According to police, he was attacked around 7 am and was declared brought dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.

Umed had left home for his morning walk. Within minutes, he was attacked from behind by 22-year-old Anish.

“Umed was stabbed twice. He tried to run and save himself. But Anish pounced on him again and stabbed him, leaving him in a pool of blood,” said a police officer.

Hearing the commotion, Umed’s family came to his help and took him to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

His family members also informed police. An initial probe revealed that CCTV cameras in the area had captured the attack. The CCTV footage established that there were some people on the road who witnessed it. Nobody intervened to save Umed’s life.

However, Anish was identified and later arrested by police. A case of murder has been filed with Bawana police station. After questioning of Umed’s family and friends, police established that Umed was involved in several disputed properties. It is also claimed that he had received several death threats in the recent past.

“Umed and Anish had a dispute regarding ownership of a portion of a plot in the area. Umed’s family told police that Anish’s family was carrying out some construction in the portion of the plot under their possession. Anish was furious over Umed objecting to the construction and attacked Umed in a fit of rage,” the officer added.

Umed’s body was handed over to family after post-mortem on Tuesday afternoon.
