Precaution can prevent swine flu, says doctor

Swine flue or H1N1 is different than other seasonal viral fever as it can create complications in human body and can prove fatal, said KMC Medicine Professor Dr Mohammed Ismail.

Speaking at H1N1 flu public awareness programme organised by Highland Islamic Forum Medical Cell at Milagres Hall here on Friday, early treatment can save the patient and simple precautionary measures can stop spreading of the disease.

KMC Community Medicine Associate Professor Dr Nithin Kumar said that fever, cough, sore throat, running or soft nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue are the main symptoms of H1N1. Some may also undergo vomiting and diarrhoea, he said.

H1N1 spreads just like any other seasonal flu, mainly through respiratory droplets. Coughing, sneezing, touching respiratory droplets of H1N1 flu patient may cause the disease.

It is better to take few simple precautionary measures like closing mouth using a hand kerchief during cough or sneezing, washing hands with soap, using dry towels to clean hands, he said.

Religious centres can be used for the distribution of knowledge, he said.
