Three children among five held for theft

Police have booked five persons including three children in conflict with law, for alleged theft of mobile phones, CPU, monitor, keyboard and mobile recharge coupons.

The arrested are Prem D’Souza (18) of Bejai, Savin (18) of Moornadu in Kodagu and three children.

They had stolen mobilephones from a shop at Kulshekar Kaikamba. The police have recovered one CPU, a keyboard, mouse, headset worth Rs 10,000, camera worth Rs 32,000, 42 recharge coupons of different telecom operators.

Two-wheelers used for committing the crime were also seized. The children were produced before Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and later handed over to their parents. Prem and Savin were remanded in judicial custody till March 16.

Missing student traced

A minor college student who went missing from city, was traced by the police in Bengaluru. It was said Gaja of Bengaluru had taken her on the pretext of marrying her.

The duo befriended through social media. Gaja had called student’s father and had informed him that he had taken away his daughter. The police traced the accused through mobile tower location.

Two convicted

The principal district and sessions and special court has convicted two persons who were involved in the sale of ganja. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on March 12.

The accused are Kunhi alias Hussain Shareef (33) and Abdul Rahim alias Chappe Tanni Rahim. The duo hail from Kasba Bengre.

The Coastal Security Police had arrested Kunhi Monu while selling ganja at Thannerbavi beach on June 16, 2009.

The other accused was arrested on August 8, 2009.

The police had recovered 1.200 kg ganja worth Rs 19,000. Inspector Mukund Nayak had filed the charge sheet to the court.
