Reflecting the rich culture

Bangalore Club for Kathakali and the Arts (BCKA) in association with the Department of Kannada & Culture, Government of Karnataka organised a spectacular evening with excellent dance and Yakshagana performances recently.

The event titled ‘Ugadi Dance Festival’ was held at Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.  The audience witnessed a delightful traditional odissi, sambalpuri, kathak, folk and yakshagana performances that showcased the diversity of the rich Indian culture.

The event featured more than 25 artistes and started with a few Odissi and Sambalpuri folk dances by Nrityantar Dance Ensemble led by Madhulita Mohapatra.This was followed by few kathak and folk dances by NADAM Dance Ensemble led by Nandini K Mehta.

The perfect synchronization of the talented dancers enthralled the audience.
The show ended with a yakshagana performance, ‘Kamsa Vadhe’, which depicted the interesting story of Srikrishna killing his cruel uncle Kamsa.

The melodious music, powerful dialogues, attractive costumes and enchanting dance by a mix of senior and talented young artistes from Yaksha Kala Academy kept the audience entertained. The story was directed by the popular artiste Krishnamurthy Thunga.
