Like the Myuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has been forced to revise its budget estimates, after the civic body failed to reach the target it had projected in the previous budget. However, a surplus budget was presented in the council on Monday.

Haseena Taj, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Taxation, Finance and Appeals, presenting the budget, projected a revenue of Rs 853.42 crore for the year 2015-16. Projected expenses of the MCC is Rs 848.86 crore, resulting in a surplus of 4.56 crore.
According to budget documents, the civic body was able to generate Rs 458.3 crore, against a projected revenue of Rs 706 crore for 2014-15. Actual revenue generated, as of December 2014, is Rs 255.32 crore.

Projects
The projects to be taken up this year include construction of drinking water units in all wards of MCC. The units will also come up near popular tourist destinations. Rs 6.5 crore has been set aside for the purpose.

Under Mayor Road Project, five major roads in the city will be developed at a cost of Rs one crore each, she said. Rs 15 crore has been set aside for development of parks, of which Rs 5 crore will be spent to develop five major parks in the city.

Source segregation
Haseena said, in order to ensure waste segregation at source, it would be made mandatory for all multi-storey buildings, commercial complexes and choultries to have their own waste processing units.

In the budget, Rs 23.3 crore has been set aside for two compost units at Kesare and Rayanakere. Rs 45 lakh has been set aside for a plastic baling unit, to recycle the plastic collected in waste segregation units.

Brick unit
The MCC also has plans to set up a brick production unit, where bricks will be made using construction debris.

Construction debris is spoiling the beauty of the city, she said and added that the unit will come up in association with private entrepreneurs.

In the budget, Rs 7 crore has been set aside for the construction of offices for Zone-1, 3, 5 and 8 of the MCC, Mayura Complex at Ashoka Circle and restrooms for pourakarmikas, Haseena added.
