NIA files charge sheet in Burdwan blast case

Last Updated 30 March 2015, 20:15 IST

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a charge sheet against 21 individuals in the Burdwan blast case, nearly six months after the October 2, 2014, incident took place.

The investigation into the blast, which took place at Khagragarh in Burdwan district, had taken the lid off an extensive network of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JuMB) outfit, with several sleeper cells functioning across the country.

An official communiqué from the NIA said that four Bangladeshi nationals are among the 21 people named in the charge sheet. They have been accused for involvement in the JuMB’s conspiracy against India and the banned outfit’s attempts to “overthrow the existing democratic government in Bangladesh through violent terrorist acts and replace it with a hard-line Sharia-based Islamic rule”.
