India's team manager Arshad Ayub confirmed the news and hoped that the off-spinner will be available in the second Test, commencing from January 24 in Mirpur.

"Harbhajan has been ruled out for the first Test. But we are hopeful that he will play in the next match," Ayub said.

Harbhajan yesterday skipped the team practise session at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here.

The visitors will now play with three pacers -- Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and S Sreesanth, while Amit Mishra will be the only specialist spinner in the team.

Regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was yesterday ruled out of the match due to back spasm.

Meanwhile, both the umpires Billy Bowden and Marais Erasmus carried out inspection at 8:45 am under a laden sky after start of the match was delayed due to fog and dew.
A final call about start of the match is likely after the umpires make another inspection at 10.00 am.
