More candidates for Comedk UGET this year

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comedk) has seen a huge surge in the number of applicants for its undergraduate entrance test (UGET) this year.

As many as 1,08,489 candidates will appear for the UGET 2015 to be held on May 10. This is not only the first time that the number of applicants has crossed a lakh, it is also the highest in the last ten years, Comedk officials said.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, A S Srikanth, Chief Executive, Comedk, said at least 15,000 more candidates would appear for the entrance test this year compared to the previous year. Of the total number of candidates appearing for the exam, 57,277 candidates will appear for medical and dental streams, 37,587 for engineering and about 13,622 candidates will appear for both the streams.

Among them, 26.33 percent candidates are from Karnataka. Even though the State has not seen a huge increase in the number of candidates, there are 2,000 more applicants from Karnataka this time compared to last year. Kerala also accounts for a large number of candidates. With about 15.12 percent, 16,403 candidates from Kerala will write the entrance test for undergraduate professional courses. Further, 9,265 candidates from Andhra Pradesh and 4,000 from Telangana too have applied.

This year, the consortium will conduct the exam in 148 centres. About 8,000 people will be involved in monitoring the exam. The entrance test is being held for undergraduate medical, dental and engineering courses. As many as 14 medical, 25 dental and 150 engineering colleges are part of the consortium.

On May 10, the test will be held in three sessions. From 9.30 am to 11.30 am, the entrance test for Physics and Chemistry will be held. From 12 pm to 1 pm, Mathematics paper will be held, following which from 2.30 to 4.30 pm, Biology and English exams will be held.

The test will be held in eight other locations apart from Bengaluru. These centres include Belagavi, Ballari, Davangere, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru, Mysuru and Tumakuru.
