The Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who begins his first visit to Telangana state from Thursday seems to have changed his mind on spending a night at a tribal tanda near Nirmal in Adilabad.
He is visiting the Telangana region as part of his pan- India campaign to apprise himself of farmer’s problems and to highlight their plight which had led to 900 suicides in the region.
AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi who was supposed to land at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, at 4 pm on Thursday on a two-day visit reached Nanded in Maharashtra by a special aircraft.
From Nanded Rahul Gandhi went to Nirmal in Adilabad in Telangana via Bhainsa which is 126 km from Nanded. TPCC office bearers rushed to Nanded to receive Rahul as the programme was changed in the last minute.
TPCC leaders were not clear as to why Rahul Gandhi cannot sleep in the tribal hamlet but said the SPG had not approved his agenda of spending a night in a tribal area in view of the fact that the CPI ( Maoists) were once again active in the region .
State police intelligence however said there was no Maoist activity in the region bordering Maharashtra.
