North score huge victory over East

Last Updated 27 May 2009, 16:43 IST

Resuming at their overnight 163 for eight in reply to North’s 383, East could add only seven runs to the total. Vinay Choudhary completed his five-wicket haul (5/22), scalping the remaining two East wickets.

Having conceded a huge 213-run innings lead, East needed a massive effort even to earn a draw. But their batsmen did not show even a semblance of fight, succumbing to Gurkirat Singh, who plucked five wickets conceding a mere 32 runs. East were bundled out for a paltry 79 in the 45th over. Vinay came up with another handy effort for North, bagging three wickets to take his match figures to an impressive eight for 38.

In another match, ZCA South displayed a will to fight it out against ZCA West on the last day after suffering some inital blows on Tuesday. Resuming from 109 for three, South made 316 before getting bowled out, and West came out of the contest with three points courtesy their 76-run innings lead. South’s innings revolved around an unbeaten hundred from Vihari Hanuman (108 n.o, 18x4).

ZCA Central too bagged three points from their match against President’s XI after replying to latter’s 336 with 358 for a lead of 22 runs.

Riding on an unbeaten ton by A Tiwari, President’s XI made 166 for five in their second innings, but that did not have any bearing on the result.

Brief scores: ZCA West 392 all out in 137.3 overs drew ZCA South: 316 all out in 113.5 overs (Vihari Hanuman 108 n.o, Shivcharan Singh 44; John Abraham 4/69).

ZCA North: 383 all out in 110.5 overs bt ZCA East: 170 all out in 70 overs (Kamal Passi 4-46, Vinay Choudhary 5-22) and 79 all out in in 44.1 overs (Gurkirat Singh 5-32, Vinay Choudhary 3-16).

President’s XI: 336 all out in 115 overs and 166/5 in 43 overs (A Tiwari  108 n.o.; K Yadav 3/22) drew ZCA Central: 358 all out in 108.5 overs (Ashutosh Singh 66, Aditya Srivastava 99; Prathik Kaushik 3-116, Inderjit B 3-49).
