City students have now come up with a new app to tackle the garbage crisis in the City and offer better solutions for effective waste management.

‘Beautiful Bengaluru,’ the app designed by students of the Lisaa School of Design, aims to encourage citizens to keep the City clean and draw attention to the civic agencies to take action.

Dohyun Park, a South Korean student from the institute, is the brain child of this app. People can sign in to the application as volunteers or supporters and use the app by uploading photographs of uncleared garbage.

“Volunteers can do their bit by forming a group and taking the initiative to clean up places in the City. The photos of the dirtiest places could also draw attention of the civic agency officers if the photos are shared on social media,” Park added. As many as twenty nine students from the institute are studying waste management as their subject and have to come up with innovative ideas to tackle the garbage crisis.

Another student, Umme Kulsum, has designed a wet waste processing unit that will soon be set up right at the heart of KR Puram. “We have designed a funnel shaped wet waste processor which could be set up in the market. This way, garbage can be disposed in the same vicinity,” the student added.

Dipendra Verma, who has designed a garbage churner on a cycle which can easily be used at home, says that people who use a cycle can also use the churner to process wet garbage and make manure out of it. Akash Singh, another student, who has designed jute bags, says that those who buy groceries on a daily basis never carry their own bags while shopping.
