The South Western Railway has planned to take up various works for the upgradation of the railway station in Chamarajanagar, with priority on basic amenities.

Addressing media persons, during his visit to inspect the railway station here, on Thursday, SWR Mysuru Divisional Additional Manager P Ramu said, thousands of passengers travel from Chamarajanagar to Mysuru and other cities, everyday. But, the railway station lacks amenities, which has been noticed by the railway department. As part of the upgradation, more lights, drinking water dispensers and facilities for physically-challenged persons will be adopted, he said.

He recalled that MP R Dhruvanarayan has allocated Rs 31.76 lakh from the MPLAD funds to repair the road that connects the railway station and for installing streetlights. An additional fund of Rs 1 lakh will be sought to provide seating arrangements at the railway station, he said.

Grievances meeting
Public grievances redressal meeting will be held from May 26 to June 9, to help and seek suggestions from the passengers, Ramu said.

Awareness would be created among the passengers on the need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene on trains and at stations, and also safety and security aspects, he added.

The department has already taken steps for the benefit of passengers from Chamarajanagar, so, as per their request the passenger train is being halted at Mariyala station.

A new system to provide tickets within five minutes, to prevent a long queue in front of the counters, has been introduced. A separate counter for women and additional police security will also be provided at the station, he said.

Helpline
A passenger helpline of 138 has been started at the Mysore Divisional Office. This would enable the passengers to know about the emergency services, rail route, food facility and others, he said.
Another helpline 182 has been set up for the passengers’ safety and security. It would help during robbery in trains, atrocity against women and others.

A helpline to provide medical help during emergency and mishaps will be introduced soon, he added.
Divisional Commercial Manager Yashod Kumar, Divisional Manager Unnikrishnan and others were present.
