Intelligence failure led to Manipur ambush of armymen: Cong

Congress today alleged intelligence failure led to the ambush by insurgents in Manipur that killed 18 armymen yesterday.

AICC also sought to paint the Modi government "ineffective" to secure the border too claiming that 1000 ceasefire violations have been witnessed since its assumption of power.

Party spokesman R P N Singh told reporters that it was a matter of concern that intelligence agencies were "not aware" even a day after the deadly ambush as to which insurgent organisation was behind it.

Singh, a former Minister of State for Home, said that 10 years of UPA rule had seen a lull in insurgent activity with peace agreements in force. He said the incident was the worst in 33 years.
Pitching for strictest action against those behind the ambush, he said that Congress will stand by efforts that would weaken those working against national security.

He utilised the occasion to take a dig at Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar telling him to refrain from making statements that "lower" his high office. Singh claimed that the problem is that the Defence Minister is not aware of how many Rafale jet fighter planes are being brought as his ministry is being run by the PMO.

Turning to World Environment Day today, he accused the government of turning Delhi into one of the most polluted cities in the world this year. He claimed that 15 years of Congress rule had made Delhi the greenest capital in the world in 2013.
