A world of their own

I don’t really plan what to do during the weekends but go wherever my work takes me. Since music forms an important part of my life, it inevitably takes up a major chunk of my weekends as well.

I usually have a lot of shows and performances so I find myself travelling to various places. During such times, my weekends are filled with sound-checks and studio recordings. However, there are times when I am not travelling. So without a blink of an eye, one can easily call me a home-bird. I love being at home and spending time with my wife. For me, it’s an ideal place to work as well as unwind because our house is very artistic. It is a free-thinking space full of ideas. Unlike other homes, it has no rooms and is just one space with various partitions. The first three floors are offices. Then there is a studio apartment where I sing and enjoy myself and also a sit-out, where I call my friends over and where we end up chatting for hours. We also have a big balcony where we usually take a walk. We have a cot there as well, where I sit and sing.

Though I like reading, I usually don’t have time to finish big books. So an edition of Tinkle works best for me. I also love to cook and one of my favourite dishes is banana ‘dosa’, which was the result of many experiments! I also enjoy cooking during the weekends simple dishes like ‘upma’, ‘sambhar’ and sweet ‘avalakki’. I also enjoy indulging in some gardening.
However, my favourite activity or hobby is cycling. It not only reduces traffic and pollution, but is also one of the best forms of exercise.

I love cycling down to Srirangapatnam and Mysuru. My childhood was spent in Mysuru and though the ride is tiring, it gives me immense joy.  As far as my hair is concerned, I do spend sometime on it. There are many people who use their free time to style their hair but I like to keep mine messy. In fact, I take some time out to mess my hair instead of combing it!

Apart from music, my wife and I share a few common interests. We usually watch plays and movies and meet friends during the weekends. I enjoy my space and solitude at home.
I like doing a lot of ‘nothings’ when I am here. I am happy that I don’t have to go out and look for a beautiful place as I obtain the peace I require when I am at home itself. It makes for a perfect weekend.”
