Journalist burnt to death: Dying Jagendra Singh records his last lines

"Why did they set me on fire? They could have thrashed me, if they wanted to take out their grudge on me." These were the last lines of the journalist who was burnt to death for his Facebook posts against SP MLA Ram Murti Verma.

Whining in pain, the Shahjahanpur-based journalist Jagendra Singh, got his final statement recorded in front of the magistrate before succumbing to the burn injuries.

In the video, Jagendra Singh stated that a team of policemen headed by inspector Sri Prakash Rai forcefully entered his house, poured kerosene on him and set him ablaze.

After the horrific truth came to light, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav called for a meeting of his ministers and has reportedly decided to sack the accused minister Ram Murti Verma from his cabinet, as per a Times Of India report.

Governor Ram Naik met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the brutal incident with them.

Director of the state Forensic Science Laboratory, Shyam Bihari Upadhyaya and his team have gathered evidence from Jagendra Singh. The report will be submitted to the government soon.
