Dozen under scanner for waving IS flag in J&K

Last Updated 19 June 2015, 01:33 IST

A dozen Kashmiri youth are under scanner for waving the flag of terror outfit Islamic State (IS) in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past though security agencies believe that they are not taken to violent path.

Central security officials said they have identified 12 youths who are behind the incidents in the state, which had triggered heightened vigil.

“We are keeping a close eye on all of them. They are under watch. They are sympathisers and they got attracted to IS through internet,” the officials said.

The agencies are also contemplating action against these youths, who were identified on the basis of intelligence inputs, footage of CCTV cameras, still and video photographs.
At least a dozen incidents of IS flag raising in Kashmir Valley in recent months.

IS, which controls a large part of Iraq and Syria, is a banned organisation in the country. Security agencies claim that there are no intelligence inputs to indicate that IS has become active in the country in connivance with Pakistani spy agency ISI though some Indian youth have joined the Al-Baghdadi-led outfit.

“The interrogation of arrested terrorists by security agencies has revealed that ISI is aiding terror activities in India by providing shelter, training, patronage and financial assistance to terrorists/terror outfits. There are no intelligence reports to indicate that outfits like IS of Baghdadi have become active in the country in connivance with ISI,” the Home Ministry had informed Parliament in May.
