Upset over mother's illness, man ends life

A 40-year-old employee of a private company hung himself to death after learning that his mother had cardiac problems, in Subramanyanagar on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramakrishna Murthy, an employee with ITC and a native of Chikkaballapur.

On Thursday, his mother Gangamma was hospitalised after she suffered a heart attack. Murthy's brother Shantha Kumar called him up and told him that their mother needs to be operated on. Later, Kumar tried calling Murthy again, but there was no response. The police added that on Friday morning, Kumar went to Murthy’s house and found the door locked from inside.

There was no response despite several knocks. He peeped through the window and found Murthy hanging from the ceiling in his bedroom. He alerted the neighbours who informed the police.

Kumar told the police that he was upset as their mother was falling sick frequently. He was staying with his mother and his wife had deserted him a few years ago, the police said.
