Justice Sadashiva, who is the chairman of the commission, on Saturday met the CM in Bangalore to request for the funds.

Later speaking to reporters, the chairman said so far the government has released Rs 1.2 crore. Another Rs 12 crore is the immediate requirement. “The CM assured that money would not be a constraint. He has asked the commission to complete its work within the stipulated time,” he said.

The commission, set up in 2004, is entrusted with the work of surveying the socio-economic condition of SC sub castes.

The panel was set up following complaints by the most backward groups within the SC category that only certain castes were getting reservation benefits. The term of the commission has been extended up to the end of this year.

Justice Sadashiva said teachers have to be employed for enumeration work. “The enumeration has to be conducted in April and May when schools have holidays. There has been delay in conducting the work because of paucity of funds,” he added.
