The NDMC sealed the rooftop areas of six restaurants in Connaught Place after the council found that the area was being used without the requisite licence.

The restaurants whose rooftop areas have been sealed so far are Milk Bar, Qba, Beer Cafe, Kitchen Bar, Kinbuck 2 and Warehouse Cafe.

“The part of the restaurants for which the owners do not hold licences have been sealed. The open areas were being illegally used. The restaurants are otherwise functioning as before,” said a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) official.

The council found the restaurants to be flouting rules during an inspection. Restaurant owners have alleged that the council has sealed off the rooftop areas arbitrarily without giving notice.

Recently, the NDMC had sealed Hotel Asian International which was functioning even after its lease had expired. The hotel had failed to pay Rs 56 crore as licence fee to the council.

The council charges licence fees to hotels which are given out on lease. Earlier, the council had also sealed Hotel Connaught Place which failed to pay licence fee of Rs 130 crore. However, it started functioning later again.
