Free Wi-Fi at KRS, Hampi from July 1

The BSNL will introduce free Wi-Fi service at Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, 1 MG Mall, Hampi and Brindavan Gardens (KRS) near Mysuru from July 1.

At a press meet on Saturday, Chief General Manager, BSNL, Karnataka Telecom Circle, P Nagaraju, said free Wi-Fi service would be provided for the first 30 minutes a day and later, customers would be charged Rs 30 for 30 minutes, Rs 50 for 60 minutes, Rs 90 for 120 minutes and Rs 150 for a full day. We will be providing 4G facility through Wi-Fi, he said.

Trial runs have already been conducted at 1 MG Mall, Bengaluru and Hampi. Trials are on at Brindavan Gardens at present. Gradually, the service would be provided across 330 locations in all 30 districts. Nagaraju added that the next generation network, commissioned on March 8, would cover the State in three months. The latest IP-based technology is available at Indiranagar, Malleswaram, National Games Village, BEL Road in Bengaluru and Pinto Road and Vidyanagar at Hubballi, he stated.

As many as 1,284 gram panchayats have been connected under the National Optical Fibre Network. At present, the network has been put in place in Mandya, Chamarajnagar, Hassan and Bengaluru Urban districts. BSNL has increased its sales by 40 per cent in border areas of State with the introduction of free roaming.
