The enforcement directorate(ED) of government of India on Thursday conducted raids at various places in Odisha reportedly in connection with irregularities in mining and mineral sector. The details of the raid are not yet known.

According to highly placed sources, the offices and other establishments of three state-based mining and transport companies located at various places including state capital Bhubaneswar were raided by the ED officials.

The houses and offices of one independent member of the state assembly from one of the mineral rich districts had also been raided both in Bhubaneswar as well as in his constituency. The MLA is known for his business links in mining sector.

Significantly, some of the mining companies whose offices were raided by the ED on Thursday had figured in the report of justice Shah Commission which had probed into the irregularities in the mining sector in all the mineral rich states in the country including Odisha.

If sources are to be believed, the ED also conducted raids in different places in some of the neighbouring states.
