Henceforth, PU results only on official website, says Ratnakar

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar on Thursday told Legislative Council that hereafter the II PUC results will be announced only on the official website. The department is also contemplating mailing the soft copies of answerscripts to the students, he added.

He was replying to the queries raised by the legislators, on the recent valuation fiasco in Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) office in April, in the Council on Thursday.

The Opposition members slammed the DPUE for the recent discrepancies in the PU results. Accusing that the officials in the department were callous and irresponsible, they demanded that the PU Board (DPUE) be dissolved. The DPUE has not even bothered to train its lecturers in the upgraded syllabus, they said.

Ratnakar said that the problem faced by students in April was an isolated incident and that it was being dragged on, as his department had failed to ‘convince’ the media properly at the first instance when students started complaining about low marks.

He said that the department had outsourced the displaying of results to 12 private agencies, as the official website could not withstand the load. This year, one of the agencies had made a blunder by entering a wrong code, which had inconvenienced students across the State. Despite this, the PU results had been good this year.

Ratnakar further said that a team will be constituted and sent to CBSE colleges in neighbouring states to study their valuation and examination systems. An action plan will also be evolved to train the lecturers and the principals to prepare the question papers and also in a bid to improve the examination and valuation system.
