Take up all measures to check vector-borne diseases: Minister

All precautionary measures should be taken to check the spread of vector-borne diseases like dengue, chikungunya and malaria in the district, said District in-Charge Minister K Abhayachandra Jain.

Chairing a meeting on Sunday, he said that stagnant water becomes breeding ground for mosquitoes. There is a need to maintain cleanliness in the surroundings and ensure that water does not remain stagnant.

The minister said that work on UGD is nearing completion. The work on STP should be initiated at the earliest. A large number of labourers from outside work in coffee estates. There is a need to create awareness on cleanliness and education among them.

Dog bite cases
A total of 3,476 dog bite cases have been reported in the district. Anti-rabies vaccines should be made available in all health centres, he added.

MLC Gayathri Shanthe Gowda said that vacant site owners should be directed to maintain cleanliness on their sites.

Deputy Commissioner S P Shadakshariswamy said that compared to last four to five years, the outbreak of vector-borne diseases were less this year. A total of 42 dengue, 32 chikungunya and 35 malaria cases have been reported in the district.
