JD(s) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday visited the houses of three debt-ridden farmers who had committed suicide in the taluk.

He visited the house of farmer Kenchegowda in Sagya, offered a compensation of Rs one lakh and consoled the family members. Kenchegowda, a young agriculturist, had ended his life on Sunday. Kumara-swamy advised the farmer’s wife to provide good education to her two little daughters. He later visited the residence of farmer Puttaswamy at Dhanagur and offered a compensation of Rs 50,000.

He said the State government had little concern for farmers. Kumaraswamy threatened to launch an agitation from Chamarajanagar next month, if the government failed to fix scientific prices for crops by then.
