NDMC gets in the mood for I-Day

Last Updated 08 August 2015, 02:58 IST

The NDMC is sprucing up its areas ahead of Independence Day. The horticulture department of the council is decorating the roundabouts in its jurtisdiction with flower arrangements and flags.

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) parks like Fragrance Park, Sanjay Jheel, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden and Nehru Garden are also being given a fresh look with special focus on flower arrangements.

The council is planning a laser show on the Independence Day theme on the white walls of Regal Theatre in Connaught Place.

“The pristine walls of Regal are likely to be used this year as well for the laser show. We are working on the programme schedule currently,“ an official said. There will be projection slides depicting history related to Independence.

Last year, the NDMC’s own history was also projected.

There will be two-day-long celebrations at Central Park — which also houses the monumental national flag — in Connaught Place. There will be a musical festival and giant screens will be put up around the park to give the audience in the central market a feel of the celebrations.

“The technicalities are currently being worked out. The idea is to have at least a two-day-long celebration for Delhiites in the central place,” said the official.

“The NDMC schools will organise processions and Independence Day-related cultural programmes. These celebrations will be week-long. Children will also be encouraged to submit projects on the history of India. It is important they know the legends behind Independence and will be updated on it through these projects,” said another official.
