A youth was bludgeoned to death by his friend in a drunken brawl in Kalasipalya police limits on Friday.

The deceased has been  identified as Manikanta, 25. He and the accused, Ayyappa, 25 were labourers in the City Market and lived in the area. Ayyappa was arrested hours after the murder, said the police.

The two friends went to a bar on Friday afternoon and were inebriated before they left for work.

On their way back, around 2.30 pm, Ayyappa picked a quarrel with Manikanta. He pushed Manikanta, who fell to the ground. Ayyappa then lifted a heavy stone and smashed it on Manikanta’s head repeatedly, said the police.

A few local residents rushed Manikanta to Victoria Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On being alerted, the police rushed to the spot and arrested Ayyappa.

Man stabbed to death
A man who was urinating near a playground, was stabbed by unidentified persons within the DJ Halli police limits on Friday night. He succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The deceased was identified as Wazid, 32, a resident of Ramakrishna Hegde Nagar. Wazid was employed at a tea stall in Chickpet. He was married and had four children, said the police.

Wazid met his friend Makbul on his way home, who offered to drop him in his car. A while later Wazid requested Makbul to stop the car near a playground on Shyampura Main Road as he wanted to answer call of nature said the police.

He went towards the playground. When he did not return for over 10 minutes, Makbul grew suspicious and went in his search.

He then spotted Wazid rushing towards the car holding his hand over his abdomen, from where blood was oozing out, said the police.

With the help of a few local residents, Makbul rushed him to a nearby private hospital. The doctors treated him and advised Makbul to shift him to Bowring Hospital. Wazid suffered from massive internal bleeding and succumbed to his injuries in the night, said the police.

‘Identity not known’
“The identity and motive of the assailants is yet to be ascertained.

“A few boys who were playing there might have started a fight with Wazid over urinating near the ground and could have stabbed him,” the police suspect.

Wazid was not involved in any criminal activities and was not from Shyampura Main Road. He told Makbul that a few unknown men stabbed him. Hence, the police ruled out the possibility of old rivalry.
