A deputy collector had a spat with a police constable in full public view when he was stopped from entering the ancient Mahakal temple here out of turn, but he still went inside and offered prayers.

Constable Bhanvarlal, posted at the entry gate of the temple, allegedly stopped the Deputy Collector Narendra Suryavanshi from entering out of turn.

This led to a heated argument, but Suryavanshi still went in and offered prayers.
When he came out, angry words were again exchanged and the two almost came to blows, but other officials present at the spot pulled them apart.

"Yes, we have learnt that there was a fight between a police constable and deputy collector at the temple," Ujjain Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) V Madhukumar said.

The district collector would probe the incident, he told PTI.

However, Inspector Manoj Dubey of Mahakal police station said neither the constable nor the deputy collector had approached them with complaint.

A video clip of the incident went viral on the social media.

According to frequent visitors to the temple, policemen often find themselves in a spot as political leaders and other 'VIPs' sometimes seek to have darshan of the deity (Mahakaleshwar) without standing in the queue
