Assembly to debut on Facebook, Twitter

The Delhi Assembly is all set to get its Facebook and Twitter accounts.
The social networking accounts are aimed at highlighting the key legislative decisions, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel told reporters on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will launch the Twitter account, while Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta of Bharatiya Janata Party will launch the Facebook account.

Goel said Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will inaugurate a two-day orientation programme for MLAs at the Delhi Secretariat on August 25 and 26.

The programme give legislators an insight into the House proceedings and enrich the quality of matter and questions raised by them.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury will hold the first session on Legislature and Committees. This will be followed by sessions by former Member of Parliament and former Secretary (Revenue) N K Singh on Legislature and Budget and by Member of Parliament Bhartruhari Mahtab on questions and other legislative tools.

Sisodia will also give a presentation on the digitalisation of Member of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development Scheme (MLALADS).

On the second day of the session, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar will deliver a talk on how to be an effective legislator. BJP’s Darjeeling MP S S Ahluwalia will talk about Legislature - Privileges and Ethics.
