'I love to take challenges'

Learning curve
Last Updated 24 August 2015, 18:35 IST

Actor and anchor Manish Paul had to go back to science books to prepare for a TV show he has been hosting since 2014. The studying part wasn’t required much, but the 34-year-old actor didn’t want to do it half-heartedly. “I had to study hard to understand the concepts I discuss during the show,” Paul says.

The show, Science of Stupid on National Geographic focuses on informing viewers about the logic behind stunts and activities that lead to mishap, by introducing them to science behind the act and how gravitational pull or a certain change in angle can help them avoid such accidents. “The show is informative and it gives me satisfaction that the viewers are learning something from it. So I too have to give my best to inform them,” he tells Metrolife.

Paul started as a radio and video jockey. He moved on to small screen before hosting reality shows and then entered Bollywood in 2009 where he made a special appearance in Maruti Mera Dost. His first leading role came with Mickey Virus in 2013 and now he has three movies in his kitty and is hosting Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa  as well.

“I love to take challenges and get out of my comfort zone. I have majorly been associated with entertainment industry so when I took up the science show, my friends were sceptical as they know I am a fun-loving person and they thought doing something related to science was a stupid idea,” he elaborates. But the show is doing well and his quirky anchoring style has been noticed too. “Every actor wants to do different roles, so it was important for me to try something different,” he says.

Since Paul had no godfather in the industry, he had to prove himself by working hard and creating a space for himself in the entertainment industry. “The journey has been fruitful. There have been struggles, but people have noticed me for my work,” he says.

Over the years, small screen too has become an important channel to reach out to a larger audience as Bollywood celebrities have started appearing on television while promoting their films. “The best thing is that a lot of people are doing television and TV is something to look up to,” he says.

Paul is presently shooting for Katha and Tere Bin Laden 2 and despite his hectic schedule, he knows how to balance his professional and personal life. “I love my job but I love my family too. So I try to be punctual, pack up on time and head home,” he adds.
