SC rejects plea for quashing Salman's bail

Last Updated 31 August 2015, 19:38 IST

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea made by the mother of a deceased Mumbai police constable for bail cancellation of actor Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

A bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy, however, allowed advocate M L Sharma, representing Sushila Bai Himmat Rao Patil to withdraw her petition. The petitioner is mother of constable Ravindra Patil, who was deployed as bodyguard to the actor at the time of accident and he was the main witness in the case.

The petitioner, among others, also sought enhancement of five-year jail term for the actor.
The Bombay HC is hearing the appeal filed by the actor against his conviction by the trial court.

She had earlier on July 27 sought transfer of the case to Delhi HC saying there was no chance of getting justice in Maharashtra. The apex court, however, had then also rejected her plea.
